nature friendly development
3CG is committed to protecting and enhancing our parish and we are keen to give our input into how architects and designers could so easily create nature-friendly homes that blend in well with our ancient Saxon village.
We cannot escape the building of new houses but maybe we could influence the way the development is designed by working with the local authority and the developers.
We believe new development should:
We cannot escape the building of new houses but maybe we could influence the way the development is designed by working with the local authority and the developers.
We believe new development should:
- Retain the character of a country village
- Keep housing density low
- Include large nature-friendly green spaces for residents to enjoy
- Be secluded with native trees and hedges – keeping them where they already exist and planting many more
- Make space for nature to flourish and build their homes alongside ours - wildlife corridors including strips of native wildflower grassland for pollinators and butterflies, native hedgerows and gaps under fences and walls as hedgehog highways - swift boxes, house martin cups, sparrow boxes, beetle banks, bat roost boxes, a logger, wildlife tunnels, bug boxes, shallow invertebrate bays and bat hop-over points
- Install sustainable drainage - rather than channelling rainwater straight underground into pipes, it should be directed along rills and swales on the surface providing great homes for wildlife, slowing the flow and using nature to clean the water
- All this would be of minimal cost to the developer but would be invaluable for our wildlife
- All we ask is that you talk to us and listen to us
